Girdwood Parks and Recreation

About Us

Girdwood is a neighborhood of the Muncipality of Anchorage; the Girdwood Valley Service Area self-funds and manages Girdwood Parks and Recreation.

Girdwood Parks and Recreation is responsible for maintaining our community parks, fields, trails, pavilions, community room and tent campground. Girdwood Parks and Recreation secures grants and donations to fund projects, facilitates skate park, tennis committee and other user-group meetings, coordinates volunteer work efforts and assists with recreation programs with local non-profit partners to provide a variety of recreation programs for all ages.

Trail System

Girdwood’s trail system ranges from quiet, primative routes to paved and highly developed trails. All trails are frequented by wildlife, including moose and bear. Many of the local trails connect to land managed by Chugach State Park and the US Forest Service, and private land. Parks and Recreation works with the Girdwood Trails Committee and the various land managers to determine trail projects and to maintain existing trails.
